Vintage MAGNALITE 17 Qt Roaster 4269 w/Lid Cracked but Repaired FRANKENPOT Read. Here's the sad but hopeful tale of this classic Wagner Roaster.. Found at an estate sale in the crypt of an old time-capsule house -- almost everything from the 1950s and 60s. I spotted this pot in a large bag full of Christmas wrap and ribbons??
, buried deep in a closet. At first I hadn't noticed the 5 inch long crack that started at the top rim of the pot near the handle and extended down toward the base, stopping about an inch from the bottom.I took it home and scrubbed it out really well, and then I noticed the wound. Although it does not have it's trivet, the lid is completely intact.
I brought it to a friend who has some welding tools and experience and he told me he could repair it, no problem. It has been completely welded and is now fully functional -- BUT IT AIN'T PRETTY.The first thing I thought when I saw it was it was now rather Frankenstous in appearance, but I know these dutch ovens are valuable and useful items. And so now I offer it to you, in the hopes that the sad tale may have a happy ending, and Frankenpot finds a new home. The lid still fits as properly, and this pot has hardly any wobble (about 1/8 inch as far as I can tell).
Please see photos for best idea of detail and condition. I've included 2 photos of the crack before the "repair".
